Qiu Zhijie

An experimental artist that explores a vast array of media, Qiu Zhijie (born 1969 in Fujian Provence) is also a curator, art critic, and professor at Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. Some media that Qiu has explored with great success include performance, photography, video, painting and print making. Creating works that are often theoretical based, Qiu explores notions of individuality and invisibility. Some of his better-known works include photographic works such as Tattoo 1 and Tattoo 2 (1997) in which he examines the body and its transformation through information processes. Qiu has regularly exhibited with solo exhibitions such as Qiu Zhijie: Invisibility (2001), at the Ethan Cohen Fine Arts, New York, the 1992 exhibition Concern To the New Life, Museum of National Academy of Fine Art, Huangzhou, China, and group exhibitions such as the 2004 touring exhibition, Between Past and Future: New Photography and Video from China, International Center of Photography, New Yor! k, and the 50th Venice Biennial, Italy in 2003, and the 2004 Shanghai Biennale.
