Sui Jianguo
Sui Jianguo was born in Singtao, Shan Dong province in 1956. Creating works that range from the more conceptual to the more socially-critical, Sui is a noted sculptor that often uses hard and heavy materials such as stone, metal and wood. Sui has exhibited prolifically, with solo exhibitions in China, Taiwan, India, Hong Kong, and Australia. His first solo exhibition Remember of Space (1994) was held at the Cafa Gallery in Beijing. Some group exhibitions that Sui has participated in include, the 1993 international traveling exhibition China's New Art Post '89, the 1999 American-touring exhibition, Transience: Chinese Art at the End of the 20th Century, and the 2000 Shanghai Biennale in China. Sui continues to live and work out of Beijing, while maintaining his position as the Head of the Sculpture Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing.
